Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the CSU East Bay Conference Center, 1000 Broadway, Oakland. Tuition: $400 for both days (early bird registrations received by Feb. 12: $350 for both days; BBS and MCLE CEUs will be provided.
While this training is designed primarily for mental health professionals, all other interested collaborative professionals are welcome. One of the benefits for attorneys and financial specialists attending this training will be a better understanding of the value of mental health professionals in collaborative cases.
This class includes fourteen hours of instruction, composed of work in pairs and small groups, role plays, brief lectures, large and small group discussions, demonstrations, and reflection.
Training topics will include:
Introduction to Collaborative Practice;
Roles of the Collaborative Practice team members;
Stages of the collaborative process;
Collaborative Practice models;
Disqualification agreement, transparency and team communication and how they affect the coaching/child specialist roles;
The role of the collaborative coach and child specialist;
Difference between collaborative coaching and therapy;
Difference between the roles of child specialists and custody evaluators;
Confidentiality vs. transparency;
Team work, use of coaching skills in team work;
Assessing client suitability for collaborative practice;
Helping clients develop goals and interests;
Goal oriented focus on resolution of conflict;
Understanding and building clients’ resilience and self-reliance;
Assisting clients with improving their communication;
Developing parenting plans;
Sharing information and giving feedback;
Working with clients with difficult personality styles or relationship behaviors;
Engaging clients in working through challenges;
Monitoring the process;
When to intervene in the process;
Bringing children’s interests into the collaborative process;
Assessing children’s needs;
Values, attitudes, beliefs of an excellent collaborative practitioner;
Communications skills;
Reflection and self-awareness;
Step-by-step practice;
Initial client interview;
Assessment of client suitability;
Team building and team challenges; and
Developing interests; interest-based negotiation.
No prior collaborative experience is required.
Enrollment is limited to fifty participants.
Salad and sandwich lunches as well as mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks and beverages will be provided at each class.
